Compress video to a target size
Shrink an MP4 or WebM video towards a file size you set, for example to fit an email or upload limit; the size is a target, not a guarantee.
- Runs in your browser
- No upload
- Check before download
Files and content stay on this device. Aggregate action counts are sent only with your separate consent. 64 MB, 120 seconds, up to 1920×1080 pixels. WebCodecs support required. Split re-encodes; audio extraction creates PCM WAV; tags are removed. Compression is a bounded attempt, never a guarantee. Compression preserves compatible AAC/MP3 audio packets; other audio requires an available AAC encoder.

Compress video to a target size
- Prepare the input
Choose a supported video and enter a target size or use a preset. The target is an upper-limit attempt, not a promise. The codecs available, how complex the source is and the audio that is kept all limit what can fit.
- Try the worked example
For a selected target of 10 MiB, only a measured result at or below that target is a fit. A result of 12 MiB is over the target even if it is smaller than the source. Check the reported bytes instead of relying on the platform name on the preset.
- Check and save
Play the saved output from start to end and compare the picture, audio and size. If the target can't be met, choose a target that is feasible, or reduce the source with another suitable workflow. Keep the original so you can compare quality.
Questions
Does a Gmail or Discord preset guarantee acceptance?
No. A preset selects a target size in bytes. Your account, the platform and its current upload rules are separate matters. Check the actual destination and the saved size instead of treating the label as a guarantee that it will be accepted.
Why can audio prevent reaching a tiny target?
Compatible AAC or MP3 packets may be kept, while other audio needs an AAC encoder to be available. The soundtrack and the container take up bytes that you can't remove just by lowering the video quality.
Will every device complete the same conversion?
No. WebCodecs or native encoder support is required, within 64 MiB, 120 seconds and 1920×1080. An attempt that is refused or ends up over the target is not hidden behind a claim of success, and no upload fallback is used.
