Drop your visa photo here. Refentra checks the file rules from the U.S. Department of State and makes a fitting copy on your device. Whether your face, background and lighting meet the photo rules is outside this file check.

Rule: U.S. visa · Digital photo (DS-160 and others)
The photo isn't square. Phone photos are 4:3 or 16:9; the visa file must be square, between 600 px and 1,200 px on each side.
Wrong format. Only JPEG is accepted. iPhone photos are often HEIC, screenshots PNG.
Too large – or compressed too hard. The file may be at most 240 KB, but the rules also limit compression to 20:1. By that rule a 600 px × 600 px photo should not be much smaller than about 54 KB.
How to make it fit
Drop the original photo, not a copy sent through a messenger.
Choose "Make it fit". Refentra crops to a centred square, converts to JPEG and stays within the size limit.
Check that your whole head and shoulders are still in the square. If not, crop manually with "Crop and adjust a photo" and check again.
Upload the result in the visa application.
Pitfalls
A centred crop can cut off the top of the head if you stood off-centre. Always look at the result.
Photos forwarded via WhatsApp or similar apps are often compressed so strongly that they fail quality checks.
Filters, beauty modes and edited backgrounds are not a file problem but can still get the photo rejected.
Questions
Is this the same as the U.S. passport renewal photo?
No. Online passport renewal has its own file rules; see the U.S. passport page.
Will Refentra check my face and background?
No. This is a file check. Use the official photo requirements of the U.S. Department of State for the photo itself.
