Flooring quantity calculator
Estimate flooring and whole packs from room area and pack coverage; 18 m² with 10 % waste and 2.4 m² packs needs 9 packs.

Quantity estimate only. This does not approve structural safety, load capacity, drainage, fire resistance or building-code compliance. Verify the design and local requirements with a qualified professional. Purchase quantities round up to whole packs.
Assumptions & formula
Formula and assumptions
w = Waste allowance/100; N=ceil(S(1+w)/packCoverage); S=ΣLW−Σab
The prefilled values are editable examples, not product specifications. Enter your supplier’s yield, density, coverage and packaging values, and add an allowance for overlaps, compaction and cuts where needed.
Purchase counts use the exact entered decimals and unit factors, without a rounding tolerance that could discard a real remainder. π and irrational square roots use enclosing bounds; ambiguous counts produce an error. Counts must be safe integers.

How to use this calculator
- Set inputs and units
Enter the room rectangles minus the openings, the material label, the supplier’s pack coverage in m² and the waste percentage.
- Calculate
Check this worked example: net=(5×2+2×3−2×1)=14 m²; waste10%,packCoverage2.2 m² →purchase15.4 m²,packs7,surplus1.4 m²
- Results
Surplus compares the area of the packs you buy with the net area, so it includes your allowance as well as the rounding up to whole packs.
Questions and limits
Does the material label select a waste factor?
No. The plank, laminate and carpet labels only describe what you chose. The allowance stays an explicit number that you enter.
Which input errors should I correct?
Pack coverage must be positive. Use the coverage of a whole pack you buy, not of a single plank.
What does this calculation leave out?
No cutting optimization room by room, expansion-gap design, acclimatization, moisture testing or approval of the installation for a product.
