What the conversion keeps

The decoder applies the HEIF container transforms once. Refentra then creates one 8-bit JPEG at the original displayed dimensions.

JPEG does not retain transparency, HDR, Live Photo motion, depth data, or the source photo metadata.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Choose a HEIC or HEIF photo

    Choose one .heic or .heif still image or drop it into the tool. The file is never uploaded.

  2. Set the JPEG quality

    Set JPEG quality from 40 to 100. Any transparent areas always receive a white background.

  3. Convert and download

    Start the local conversion, inspect orientation and detail in the preview, and download the new JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with 24 MP and 48 MP iPhone photos?

Yes. The converter accepts HEIC photos up to 48 MP, which covers the 24 MP default and the optional 48 MP setting on supported iPhone models. In a desktop browser, these photos should convert. On iPhone or iPad, Safari may stop above about 16 MP because of device memory and canvas limits, and the tool then says so. In that case, export a JPG with the Preview app on the device, or use the converter on a computer. Lower JPEG quality does not reduce decoding memory, and renaming does not convert the file.

Is my HEIC photo uploaded to a server?

No. The photo is decoded and saved as JPEG in your browser. The file, filename, and metadata are not uploaded.

Which HEIC and HEIF files are supported?

One HEIC or HEIF still image encoded with HEVC, up to 25 MiB, 12,000 px per side, and 48 megapixels. Sequences, multiple top-level images, other codecs, and variants that cannot be handled safely are rejected.

Are orientation, dimensions, and metadata preserved?

HEIF orientation and mirroring are applied once, so the JPEG keeps the displayed pixel dimensions. The result is a lossy 8-bit JPEG, and source metadata is not copied.

What happens to transparency, HDR, and Live Photos?

JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are placed on fixed white. HDR, depth data, and Live Photo motion are not retained.
