Paver materials calculator
Estimate pavers plus base and bedding-sand volumes for a patio or path; 20 m² with 10 % extra in 0.3 × 0.3 m pavers needs 245 pavers.

Quantity estimate only. This does not approve structural safety, load capacity, drainage, fire resistance or building-code compliance. Verify the design and local requirements with a qualified professional. Purchase quantities round up to whole packs.
Assumptions & formula
Formula and assumptions
w = Waste allowance/100; n=ceil(S(1+w)/(ab)); Vbase=S×D(1+w); Vsand=S×d(1+w)
The prefilled values are editable examples, not product specifications. Enter your supplier’s yield, density, coverage and packaging values, and add an allowance for overlaps, compaction and cuts where needed.
Purchase counts use the exact entered decimals and unit factors, without a rounding tolerance that could discard a real remainder. π and irrational square roots use enclosing bounds; ambiguous counts produce an error. Counts must be safe integers.

How to use this calculator
- Set inputs and units
Enter the paved rectangles, the paver dimensions, the pieces per pack, the base and sand depths, the layout and the allowance.
- Calculate
Check this worked example: 5×2 m,paver0.2×0.1 m,50/pack,base0.15 m,sand0.04 m,waste0% →pieces500,packs10,base1.5 m³,sand0.4 m³
- Results
Compare whole paving packs with the bulk volumes of base and sand. They use separate coverage and depth assumptions.
Questions and limits
Does herringbone mode calculate every cut?
No. The pattern is labeled, but you supply its waste allowance. No optimizer runs for boundary cuts or reuse of offcuts.
Which input errors should I correct?
Check that the base and sand depths use the length unit you selected, not millimeters copied into meter fields.
What does this calculation leave out?
No assessment of the subgrade’s bearing capacity, drainage gradient, compaction specification or traffic-load design.
