Asphalt quantity calculator
Estimate asphalt volume and weight from your density for a driveway or patch; 10 × 4 m at 0.05 m thick with 5 % extra is 2.1 m³.

Quantity estimate only. This does not approve structural safety, load capacity, drainage, fire resistance or building-code compliance. Verify the design and local requirements with a qualified professional. Purchase quantities round up to whole packs.
Assumptions & formula
Formula and assumptions
w = Waste allowance/100; V=(ΣLW−Σab)h(1+w); m=Vρ
The prefilled values are editable examples, not product specifications. Enter your supplier’s yield, density, coverage and packaging values, and add an allowance for overlaps, compaction and cuts where needed.
Purchase counts use the exact entered decimals and unit factors, without a rounding tolerance that could discard a real remainder. π and irrational square roots use enclosing bounds; ambiguous counts produce an error. Counts must be safe integers.

How to use this calculator
- Set inputs and units
Enter the paved rectangles, the finished depth, the supplier’s density in kg/m³ and the bag mass in kg, and set the allowance explicitly.
- Calculate
Check this worked example: 5×2 m ×0.05 m; density2400 kg/m³,pack25 kg,waste0% →0.5 m³,1200 kg,48 bags
- Results
Check the assumed compacted thickness against the density basis. Mass is the volume multiplied by your density.
Questions and limits
Is one standard asphalt density assumed?
No. You supply the density. The mix and how compacted it is can change the correct kg/m³ figure.
Which input errors should I correct?
Convert millimeters into the length unit you selected. All depth, density and pack-yield inputs must be positive.
What does this calculation leave out?
No pavement design, traffic loading, binder specification, temperature or placement and compaction procedure.
