Input content stays in this tab; Refentra does not upload or store it. Optional aggregate action counts are sent only with your usage consent. Clear the workspace when finished.
Supported profile: SHA-256/384/512; local files ≤256 MiB, 1 MiB chunks; 30-second file limit.
Maximum text: 200,000 UTF-16 units; parser limits can be smaller. Worker time limit: 15 seconds (regex 1.5 seconds).
Check the input and the result
- Prepare and choose the operation
Choose SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 and supply text, or a local file if the tool supports it.
- Check a concrete example
Use this sample and compare the indicated result: abc → SHA-256 → ba7816bf8f01cfea414140de5dae2223b00361a396177a9cb410ff61f20015ad
- Check the output before you reuse it
Compare the entire digest with a trusted published value that uses the same algorithm. Changing a single byte changes the checksum.
Answers for this task
Why does pasted text hash differently from a file?
Text is hashed as UTF-8. The newline style, a final newline, a BOM and Unicode composition can all change the bytes.
What should I check if the input fails?
Check the algorithm you selected and the exact bytes of the input. Don't compare a SHA-256 result against a SHA-512 reference.
Where does this tool stop?
A hash is not encryption, malware scanning or proof of who wrote something. Integrity only works if you get the expected digest from an independent source.
