Frequently asked questions
Does the 16 MP limit bound AV1 decoder memory?
No. Before decoding, container and AV1 bitstream dimensions, including alpha, are limited to 12,000 px per side and 16 MP. Only static files with reduced still-picture headers are accepted. This bounds image dimensions but cannot guarantee a fixed MB ceiling for the browser decoder. Conversion may fail.
Are HDR and colors preserved exactly?
No. Browser canvas produces 8-bit/sRGB output. HDR, wide gamut, and metadata may be lost or changed.
Is transparency preserved?
PNG can retain transparency. JPG is opaque; transparent areas are composited onto your explicitly chosen background.
Is the file uploaded?
No. Checks and conversion run in the browser. If your browser cannot decode AVIF, no output is offered.
