Arrange dotenv layers, choose first or last precedence and a policy for missing variables. Inspect resolved values and dependencies. Quoted multiline values and declared defaults work. Secrets are masked, and no shell or process environment is read.

Method: dotenv-ordered-2026; $NAME, ${NAME}, ${NAME:-default}, ${NAME-default}

Local processing

Input stays in your browser worker, without requests, storage or content telemetry. Original backups and explicitly revealed exports may contain secrets; keep them local.

Resource limits

Combined input ≤1 MiB; text ≤200,000 characters (XML 100,000); depth 32 / nodes 20,000 per document; at most 1,000 rows/operations; output ≤2 MiB; worker deadline 5 s. Cancel terminates the worker. These application bounds do not guarantee a total browser heap cap.

Up to 19 additional layers and 1000 variables or edges; each expanded value up to 8192 characters and up to 200000 characters in total. Expansion recursion is limited to 32. Single quotes are literal; double quotes support escapes and interpolation. No command substitution.
