How to use this calculator
- Set inputs and units
Choose power a^b or root a^(1/b), and enter the signed base or radicand and the exponent or root index separately.
- Calculate
Check this worked example: power: 2^10=1024; root: a=-8,b=3 → -2
- Results
Check a root by raising it to the index. Negative odd roots stay negative.
Questions and limits
Can a negative base have a fractional power?
This real-valued profile needs an integer exponent for negative bases. In root mode, use an odd integer index instead.
Which input errors should I correct?
The root index can't be zero. Zero raised to zero or to a negative power, and non-finite results, are rejected.
What does this calculation leave out?
Real numerical arithmetic only. No complex values, no arbitrary precision, and no exponent expressions in the numeric fields.
