Input content stays in this tab; Refentra does not upload or store it. Optional aggregate action counts are sent only with your usage consent. Clear the workspace when finished.
Supported profile: Line/word/character diff, 50,000 units per input. Unified patch uses original text; ignore options affect the colored view. Character-mode whitespace ignore removes whitespace from the comparison view; the unified patch retains original text.
Files: UTF-8 only; an optional UTF-8 BOM is removed on import. Error offsets refer to editor UTF-16 units.
Maximum text: 200,000 UTF-16 units; parser limits can be smaller. Worker time limit: 15 seconds (regex 1.5 seconds).
Check the input and the result
- Prepare and choose the operation
Put the earlier text on one side and the revision on the other, and choose a comparison by line, word or character.
- Check a concrete example
Use this sample and compare the indicated result: one old → one new: one (=), old (−), new (+)
- Check the output before you reuse it
Check the additions and removals. Then repeat without the ignore options if whitespace or letter case matters.
Answers for this task
Why can two texts appear equal?
If you ignore whitespace or case, those differences are hidden on purpose, so equality only applies to the comparison you chose.
What should I check if the input fails?
Check which side holds the original, and turn off normalization before you look into a change that seems to be missing.
Where does this tool stop?
This compares limited amounts of text. It doesn't compare document formatting or binary files, and it doesn't tell you whether two pieces of source code mean the same thing.
